Texas Stampede PRCA Rodeo
This annual rodeo is held to benefit The Children's Medical Center and the pediatric programs at UT Southwestern Medical Center. So you are doing much more than have a rip snortin’ good time at this event, you are helping thousands of children get the medical care they need.
These cowboys care. The Stampede’s goal is, through the heritage of the west and fantastic events, help kids get top notch medical treatment no matter whether their families can pay. Cowboys throughout history have done good deeds here and there, and today they are no different.
La Riata
Before you enjoy the rodeo, warm up with some good friends at a hand of cards. Cowboys were known for their card playing and hard lifestyle. Here you can join in some competition poker, enjoy dinner and music and, of course, help out some needy children.
The Rodeo
If you are going to support a good cause you might as well have fun doing it and these tough hombres do just that. The best of the best compete in this final competition.
Cowboys compete in hair raising events like steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping and bareback riding. Crowd favorites are the bronc and bull riding events which have visitors whooping and a hollering in support of the cowboy ( and sometimes the bull). If they can hang on for those oh-so-long 8 seconds you might just take home some serious prize money.
As for the western ladies, barrel racing is the sport. Again only the cream of the crop at this event, competing for first place and lots of prize money.
Good Eating
If you're mouth waters at the thought of some real tasty vittles then grab a plate. There is a Barbecue Texas Style Cook-off, only the top barbecue cooks in this one so the results are melt in the mouth, down-home delicious! This might be worth the whole trip.
Cattle Drive
What was an old time round-up without a cattle drive? Today the tradition is continued although is fun that is being driven down the street. A parade complete with a chuckwagon, lots of exhibits and floats, and even a few real life drovers, cowboys and the rodeo queen.
Corral & Marketplace
The fun just keeps on going at this worthwhile event. At the Corral & Marketplace you can find over forty vendors, food and boot stompin’ entertainment. A perfect way to round up a fantastic family happening before bedding down the little doggies for the night.
